ESPN Poll: Did Patriots Make Mistake Drafting Mallett?

ESPN POLL asks; Did Patriots Make Mistake Drafting Ryan Mallett?

Of course, us Arkansans of Razorback Nation already know the answer to this silly question. The answer is an emphatic “HELL NO!” In other words, drafting Rocket Ryan Mallett was not a mistake. Now whether the Patriots keep Mallett to be the future QB of the Patriot’s or use him in a trade or not, I’m sure we’ll soon find out within the next year or two. After all, there were several teams in serious need of a QB with Mallett’s skills but they bypassed selecting any QB. The Cardinals, Bears (definitely in need of a backup QB), Dolphins, Raiders, 49′ers, SeaHawks, and a few other teams could have used Rocket Ryan on the field this year. But I digress.

As the title reads, The ESPN poll asks; “Did the Patriots Make a Mistake Drafting Ryan Mallett?” Thus far, out of over 6.9k votes (at the time we captured the below ESPN image), Mallett is NOT a mistake for the Patriots, at least to those who took the time to vote. Btw, you can vote in the ESPN poll here. Take a look a the image and see a 74% favorable vote for Mallett;

Consequently, ESPN also asked a question about the number one pick one QB Auburn’s Cam Newton. The poll asks; “Will Cam Newton Become a Franchise QB?” Cam’s not doing so well in the voting as 71% of voters (at the time the below image was captured) do not believe the Caminator to be a “franchise QB” like Peyton Manning.

More coming soon! Especially since Razorback football is about to crank it up! Woo Pig Sooie!

Oh, and one more thing, Ryan Mallett, if you’re reading this and you need a website, contact me. All I want for payment is a couple of “real” practice footballs to give to my 13 year old son. We’ve been using Walmart ‘official’ footballs, but I don’t think they are genuinely equal. Anyway, my son Jonah was born a preemie with brittle bones, but he’s grown and healed, and now he’s 6 foot tall and YOU are his favorite NCAA QB (mine too). His doctor finally released him to play football. This will be his first year in football and he’s hoping to get number 15. He’s got a rocket arm for a 13 year old.:-) You don’t have to autograph the footballs because he will be throwing them. If you want to include an autograph on a piece of paper, that would be cool too.

Breaking News: Hogs Offensive Coordinator Staying a Hog

Garrick McGee has withdrawn his name for consideration in an open coaching position at Tulsa University. That’s great news for Hog fans! McGee is an excellent coach and we at ARCN are glad he decided to remain a Razorback. McGee will continue to work with Coach Petrino and the Razorback players with hopes and dreams of playing in the National Championship this upcoming season.

Hog’s Drop to 12th in last AP Poll of season

The Arkansas Razorbacks, who were ranked 8th going into the Sugar Bowl dropped to 12th place in the last AP Poll of the 2010 season. Obviously, their loss to Ohio State hurt the Hogs, but I seriously doubt it hurt them ‘that’ bad. LSU, who Arkansas defeated in the last regular season game, moved up to 8th place after thumping Texas A&M, a team the Hog’s also beat and at the same stadium.

I certainly do not agree with the AP Poll. For one, the Hogs beat LSU. Period. So I find it a bit off that LSU passed the Hogs by defeating the same team the Hogs had already beat. Here is what the AP Poll should look like:

1. Auburn

2. TCU

3. Oregon

4. Standford

5. Ohio State

6. Oklahoma State

7. Wisconsin

8. Oklahoma

9. Arkansas

10. LSU

11. Alabama

12. Nevada

13. Boise State

14. Mississippi State

15. Virginia Tech

16. Michigan State

17. Florida State

18. Missouri

19. South Caronlina

20. UCF

21. Nebraska

22. Texas A&M

23. Tulsa

24. Maryland

25. North Carolina State

Razorbacks Earn Sugar Bowl Trip

Sugar Poured on the Hogs

The Arkansas Razorbacks, one of the best NCAA Division I football teams in the nation, has earned a trip the the Allstate Sugar Bowl after finishing with a 10-2 record in the regular season by knocking off LSU 31-23 and finishing ranked 8th in the BCS poll. They will face the 6th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on January 4th, 2011 at 7:30pm central time. The game will be played in the Superdome in New Orleans, LA.

Led by Rocket Ryan Mallett at quarterback, the Hogs never gave up even after a devastating loss to then number one ranked Alabama (Hogs were ranked 10th) and a loss to number seven Auburn (Hogs were ranked 12th). In both losses, the Razorbacks had the opportunity to walk away with a victory. Leading Alabama 17-7 at the half, the Hogs defense fell short in the 2nd half and Bama rolled onto a 24-20 victory. Mallett threw for 357 yards, 1 TD, and 3 interceptions, two critical interceptions late in the 4th quarter. In the Auburn loss, Mallett was knocked out of the game early in the second quarter after a bad hit by Auburn’s Nick Fairly. Not to mention two very controversial calls that went Auburn’s way. Chris Low of ESPN wrote of the controversial calls; “And certainly remember two crucial, and sure to be debated, calls from the replay booth, both of which upheld Auburn touchdowns and just as easily could’ve gone Arkansas’ way.”

The Hogs gathered their senses after the Auburn booth replay official take-a-way game and refused to lose any other game to finish the season with six straight wins and end 10-2, 6-2 in the conference.
